Korean Senior Sports Instructor Training Program


On August 16–17, 2025, Nordic Walking was featured as part of the Korean Senior Sports Instructor (생활체육 노인스포츠지도사) training course at Ewha Womans University in Seoul.


About the Qualification

The Senior Sports Instructor is a nationally recognized certification in Korea. It is designed to prepare professionals who promote health, physical activity, and safe exercise participation among older adults. Candidates are often graduates in physical education, sports leaders, or professionals in health and welfare fields who plan to specialize in senior fitness and wellness.


Program Overview

  • Duration: 4 hours per session × 3 sessions

  • Participants: 80 per session (total 240 instructors)

  • Main Topics:

    • Introduction to Nordic Walking theory

    • Safe use of poles and fundamental techniques

    • Correct walking posture and practical training

    • Teaching strategies for senior participants


Key Outcomes

Over the course of three sessions, 240 Senior Sports Instructor trainees gained hands-on experience with Nordic Walking. The training emphasized correct posture, f

unctional mobility, and safe walking instruction. Nordic Walking was presented as an effective tool to support active aging, fall prevention, and extending healthy life expectancy, equipping future instructors with valuable skills to apply in their work with older adults.
