2,600 Join Hong Kong Nordic Walking Debut Event

Hong Kong Nordic Walking 2026 concluded successfully on 1 March at Tamar Park, marking a vibrant and memorable first edition of the event.

The inaugural gathering attracted more than 2,600 participants—far exceeding expectations. Individuals, families spanning three generations, and corporate teams all took part, with participants ranging in age from just eight to over eighty. With Nordic walking poles in hand, walkers moved along the beautiful Victoria Harbour promenade, enjoying the benefits of a full-body, low-impact workout against one of the world’s most iconic waterfront backdrops.

Participants could choose from several distances, including a 300-metre Family Fun Walk and 1-km and 5-km Challenge routes. Throughout the day the atmosphere was filled with energy, smiles, and celebration—warm embraces, team photos, and shared moments capturing the spirit of community and active living.

To ensure the event met international standards, the Nordic Walking Association of Hong Kong, China (INWA_HK) served as the event’s technical advisor. A team of 25 national trainers, instructors, and Active Leaders provided expert support throughout the day. From leading technique workshops to officiating at the start line and offering guidance along the course, their involvement ensured that the event followed the standards of the International Nordic Walking Federation and delivered a safe, authentic Nordic Walking experience for all participants.

Originating in Finland, Nordic Walking is a scientifically supported form of exercise that engages up to 90% of the body’s muscles. By incorporating specially designed poles into natural walking movement, it increases calorie expenditure compared with regular walking while improving posture, cardiovascular fitness, and overall wellbeing. Its accessibility makes it suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.

The strong turnout reflects Hong Kong’s growing enthusiasm for healthy living and demonstrates the power of community engagement through sport and outdoor activity. This milestone event represents an important step in introducing Nordic Walking to a wider audience across the city.

The vision is for Nordic Walking to become an increasingly familiar and accessible activity in Hong Kong—whether along harbourfront promenades, in urban parks, or on the region’s spectacular mountain trails.

While the event has concluded, the journey toward healthier, more active communities is only just beginning.
